Is it illegal to sell a slot machine that takes real money (USD) in the state of Texas?
I have a slot machine I want to sell. It was initially purchased with my knowledge that it had been “converted” to accept only tokens and will be sold with around 250 tokens. I placed an ad in a local shopper, and I have received several calls from people who are interested, but they have all asked whether or not it works with real money (quarters). I know it does, I’ve tried it out myself, but can I tell them this? I would really like to sell it, but I don’t want to risk getting in trouble over knowingly selling a gambling device that accepts real money in the state of Texas.

Answer
It is illegal to sell a slot machine that accepts real money in the state of Texas, unless the seller has a specific license to do so. According to the Texas Penal Code, gambling devices are prohibited in the state, and it is illegal to manufacture, transport, possess, or sell them. This includes slot machines that accept real money, even if they have been “converted” to accept only tokens.
If you knowingly sell a slot machine that accepts real money, you could face fines and even imprisonment. Therefore, it is important to be careful when selling a slot machine and make sure that you are not breaking any laws.
If you want to sell a slot machine in Texas, you should make sure that it has been completely converted to accept only tokens, and you should not advertise it as being able to accept real money. Additionally, you may want to consult with a legal professional to make sure that you are not breaking any laws when selling the machine.
